Problem of Drug Addiction, Gun Culture and Cigarettes among Next Generation

How Punjabi songs, movies and OTTs influence all these serious societal issues?

Ever wondered why crimes are increasing at an alarming rate in today’s time? According to me Punjabi movies and songs are linked with these crimes in direct or indirect way.

Let’s talk how it triggers or influence today’s youth

1.    High usage of weapons in movies – Celebrities use a lot of grenades, guns like AK-47 in their songs to kill their enemies or for shooting purpose but this directly triggers the mind of the young ones.

This led youth trying to copy their role model, that if he or she can use a gun, we can also use a gun in day to day life.

2.    Movies based on gangsters – Some movies are based on gangsters which showcase them as the Hero of the society but this led youth accept those villains as their role model and their killing activities in the movies becomes normal among youth.

How OTT’s trigger the problem of drug addiction?

In the Hollywood movies or Netflix series, you must have been noticed that high school scholars normalize cigarettes in their life. Some even normalize the drugs, weed whenever they are stressed or wanted to have fun.

According to me, Hollywood movies and OTT’s have their products i.e., high school students. They target only high school students and made them think like drugs or weed is normal to have for fun purposes.

Results / problems of these movies

1.    Increasing theft and robbery problems – Many young population steal things in real life by getting influenced from a particular movie where they see their role model stealing in like museum or banks.

2.    Real life killing issues – Killings have been increased by 12% since last 6 to 7 years. Few months back a young man killed his friend, reason was he tried to talk to his girlfriend. On investigation he confessed it to the police that he had seen this thing in a movie where the hero doesn’t like anybody talking to his girlfriend.

How can we prevent this crisis?

1.    Parental guide – Parents should guide their children towards these societal issues so that students can understand the difference between good and bad.

2.    Movie ban – Government must band those movies or fine penalties to directors who make these kinds of movies.
